STRATEGIES

KEY STRATEGIES

-Improvement of case management: this strategy aims at ensuring the availability of efficacious and high quality antimalarial drugs to the population;

-Strengthening of preventive measures: this includes ensuring the availability of long lasting insecticide treated nets (LLINs) for all and particularly targeting pregnant women , children under 5 years, PLHIV and the Poorest of the poor through EPI routine vaccination, ANC, mass campaign, etc.

-Promotion of community based interventions: this strategy aims at strengthening the capacities of communities to correctly manage simple malaria, by distributing first line antimalarial treatment; to monitor effective use of LLINs and to sensitise the community on malaria control activities; 

-The prediction and management of malaria epidemics: a plan for the prediction and management of malaria epidemics is being implemented.

SUPPORT STRATEGIES

-Strengthening coordination and partnership: partnership will enable strengthening and coordination of malaria control activities at all levels (central, provincial and district).

All partner’s support will be aligned to the Malaria Control strategic plan as well as the Rwandan Health sector strategic plan;

-Contribution to the development of the health system : the health system will be strengthened through capacity building, improvement of health information system, quality of services (commodities and equipment) as well as financial accessibility to health services by supporting membership into the health insurance schemes (Mutuelle de Santé);

-Monitoring and Evaluation : by ensuring regular follow up of activities and finances, establishing a close collaboration with the Health Information system and carrying out regular evaluation of the plan ;

-Operational research: operational research will be oriented towards the national malaria control strategies of PNILP in collaboration with research institutes for evidence based policies and strategies;

-Strengthening Behaviour Change Communication: emphasis will be put on availing adequate and accurate information on malaria control to the public through a diversity of communication canals.
